Troubled times. How do we respond?

“When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a communist”

So said Dom Helder Camara. He was looking at the injustice and inequalities in his land several decades ago. Still we face the same challenges in a divided world.

Looking at the place of the church in the world today, where does power lie? How is it used? And in whose interest? How are people affected?

For many years, some of us have been asking, who controls our investments? In which companies and sectors does our church invest?

The chorus today is: Do the bankers deserve their bonuses?

And given the turbulence in nations bursting for change, should we promoting our defence industry contracts in the world’s trouble spots?

How do we feel about the imbalance between power and wealth in our country and world today? Where does the church minister? How can we make a stand?
